Marvin H. Meltzer, AIA, NCARB, one of New York ‘s most prominent architects and a founding partner of award-winning Meltzer/Mandl Architects P.C., addressed a group of 125 residential real estate brokers and agents at the New York Athletic Club for the Academy for Continuing Education (ACE).

During the nearly hour-long seminar, “Designing for Your Buyer,” Meltzer discussed the seminal role brokers play in the design process. He elaborated on how brokers’ input helps architects and developers determine target markets, unit mix and size, finishes, and amenities. Utilizing a power point presentation, he described the variables that made one building more marketable than another and showed examples of several of the buildings that he and partner David Mandl have designed over the years, as well as newer projects currently under development. In addition, Meltzer touched upon such topics as sustainable or “green” architecture, which has become more prominent in residential development in recent years, and the influence of zoning laws on development.

He compared different architectural styles in the City over the decades and their impact upon housing needs and prices. Following the seminar, brokers queued up for autographed copies of his popular book, Marvin Meltzer: City as Poetry, published by L’Arca Edizioni.
